What a nice surprise. A tasty aged Zinfandel from Sonoma, California.

Showing black fruits with chocolates, earth, cedar, leather, vanilla, cloves, tobacco, coffee, cola, pencil lead and peppercorn.

Full bodied and smooth with a great mouthfeel.

Long finish with firm, grippy tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a great wine. At 23 years of age, it has enough to last for another 10 more years. Tastes like a Napa Bordeaux blend.

Good right out of the bottle and better as it opens up (30 minutes).

This Single Vineyard is good by itself or with food. I paired it with cheeses and crackers.

Yummy and delicious.

14.8% alcohol by volume.

93 points.

$50 (current vintage).

Still alive at 31 years young. Nose has a slight sherry whiff but a taste reveals a soft red berry fruit slipping away, great acid, still some gritty tannin. Gets an extra half a point simply for being accessible still.
Day 2 and it’s improving. I’m stunned.

Beautifully balanced Zin (depicted with my dog Zinny). Fragrant, but in a laid back way, with classic scents of spicy ripe blackberry along with almost Australian warm sandstoney scents. Large framed in the mouth, with rich flavors, peppery heat, and very good acids playing off one another. 130 year old vines. History!

Aged to perfection, this layered and complex Zin is firing on all cylinders, offering resolved tannins yet its vivid dark fruit profile and polished acidity kept it lively and likeable. Closing in on 20 but not at all tired yet.

Beautiful Zin that keeps evolving in the glass. Perfumey nose of ripe, tangy mixed berries and warm gravel, with notes of fresh mint and dried tobacco leaves. Compact and intense in the mouth. Dense, lively dark berries, with a mineral streak. Good acids, full body/alc., and lots of tannin provide a solid skeleton. Tremendous length. This is great now and will age well for several years. $35 from wtso.com.

The 28th vintage of this vineyard with the ravenswood label on it and one of the best wrought in a long time. Resinous spice, deep fruit, and remarkably lush (very 2012). May not be the longest lived wine made from this amazing vineyard but it's certainly delish. Happy 68th birthday pop!
