Raul Pérez
Ultreia De Valtuille Bierzo Mencía
Although this wine has gained in complexity and depth over the years, I still can’t get passed its Pinot-ey character...
So, to me, this is a well-made wine, which is food for thought... not for the heart.

Fresh, ripe red and black cherry, red plum, red flower, fresh herbs with hints of vanilla. Medium-bodied, very smooth, fine tannins and fresh acidity. Great balance. Lovely wine.

May 12th, 2014While Raul Perez is a master of Mencia, his St Jacques bottling is more open and approachable than this his top single vineyard. Still very nice, elegant and Burgundy-esque

Oct 23rd, 2016Reminds me of a Spätburgunder. Smoky oak, tart red fruit, powerful yet elegant. Not for the acidity-antagonists among us...
Although this is probably very well made, I think it's overrated and overpriced. Suppose it's not my cup of tea.
