What a treat! Tangerine, burnt orange peel, caramel, and wet dog. Sherry characteristics.
Absolutely one of a kind. Seems to have plenty of gas left in the tank.

What a wild wine. Wet dog on the nose that blew off pretty quick. Certainly oxidative. Mostly Garnacha with Tempranillo and Mazuelo. Red fruit accompanied with high acid. One of a kind.

One of my favorite wines, period. Gap in production & hard to get in (at least my NY area) States makes it even more special. Starting with a gorgeous deep tangerine color, it’s amazing how fresh both on nose & on the palate—belying its 11 yr age but no surprise given Lopez de Heredia. It just invites & invites into a world of a sun drenched herb garden, planted w zucchini & tomatoes. Medium viscosity & absolutely the most food adaptable wine. Nothing oxidized or tired here. Had with a saffron based fisherman’s stew. What Orange wines should aspire to!

I heard this wine is rare or something!? Delicious! Very vinous and structured with an incrediblely persistent finish. Really no oxidative notes whatsoever which I wasn't expecting because that flavor does typically show up on their aged white wines. 🇪🇸

R. Lopez de Heredia has not made one of these special wines since the 2000 vintage. The 2008 Vina Tondonia ‘Gran Reserva’ Rosado is a magical bottling now and shows considerably better at a warmer temperature. The Rosado displays an intoxicating bouquet of of rose petals with orange zest and red cherry candy that immediately entices. The mouthfeel is rich and downright voluptuous, considering this is a Rosé. It continues to deliver red cherry, watermelon and orange rind flavors connect with a lively minerality. This beautiful Rose has some massive cellaring potential but is extremely hard to resist in its youth. Drink 2019-2029- 92

The mythical unicorn #rosewine from @lopezdeherediaoficial: Vina Tondonia Gran Reserva Rosado 2008.

A friendly wine retailer I am close with sold me a few bottles at regular price thankfully as I gave him the heads up it was coming.  (He also sold his others at regular price!) This wine used to be easily available during its last release, the 2000 vintage back around 2005, not to mention super reasonable in price.  An unfortunate victim of fashion, the secondary market pricing on this starts around $200 and goes up to $300.

Pale copper and deep pink in color, the hue here is as it looks here turning more orange at the rim.  The nose showed as it should for an extended barrel aged wine, showing clear notes the toll oxidation has taken with time in wood.  Though, the wood aromas are well-integrated and intermingle well with dried red fruits, ginger and spice, and a clear sense of minerality which is all laid well into the thick and pungent nose.  The palate shows more precision and tension in the densely textured and flavored med/med+ body of the wine.  Finishes long and fans out wide over the palate.  For sure about as unique a rose as there is out there.

Powerhouse of resinous, herbal and spice aromas. Dried flower, potpourri, figs, orange peel, spiced herbal tea with essential oils and tar in the background. Heredia and Musar are definitely the leading purveyors of this style, though this is Heredia’s first rosado in several years and very highly anticipated. It does not disappoint.
