Another memorable Port drunk at my 70th Birthday last weekend following the 1982 Reynella. This was not as full bodied as the Reynella tawny in colour. A top quality Tawny Port from the famous house of Quinta do Noval. Notes of toffee and walnut - quite sweet on the medium bodied + palate. Very savoury. Slightly preferred the Reynella for its full bodied flavour. The Quinta was more elegant.

Sipping this in the Quinta Do Noval port house on the Douro in Porto, so that's pretty special. Smells of dried fruit, honey or maple syrup, vanilla, and spice. There's vibrant acidity on the palate that cuts through the sweetness, and makes this dangerously quaffable. I killed my little glass in no time flat.

This is embarrassing - I admit I'm not a big Port fan! But I now realise I adore the Tawny variety! Right that's out of the way, this is seriously good stuff, pronounced, woody, toffeed, caramel, dried fruits and nutty, with the addition of dried figs and raisins coming forth on the palate. Sweet with nice acidity but seriously powerful with 21% abv
