Barbaresco Nebbiolo
2021/8/12 with rigatoni with guanciale and Kagura namban peppers, smoked duck breast and Fiorentina tomato salad. In the ever-churning drama of “when to drink it”, I figured the 20 year mark was as good as any, but this was far better than that would imply. Strawberry and raspberry coulis, delicate pressed flowers, earth and a hint of tar, with plenty of fruit and acidity - this felt like it had plenty yet to give. Notes I’ve read suggest that this would have been past its prime, but in my cold, fussy cellar it felt like it was finally, just now, hitting its peak. This was my last bottle, and the most delicious of all. I wish I had a dozen more.

Aug 11th, 2021Slightly disappointing. While the tannins point to a few more years to express its full potential, the musty and ripe fruit elements say the opposite. However, the typical licorice/minty profile does the trick if in need of a Nebbiolo fix.
