Poggio Nero
Brunello di Montalcino
Corked! Sat down last Friday after a hectic week with Oscar Peterson and Ray Brown on vinyl and a karaffe of this Brunello that my son decanted for me 4 hours earlier. The TCA-acetone-wet dog smell and taste ruined my afternoon. Luckily we had decanted a Ornellaia that rocked.

Jan 19th, 2019Should have gotten a 2010 from this producer to compare with the other outstanding -10 Brunellos I've tried (Col d'Orcia, Silvio Nardi, Madonna Nera); but -11s was all I could get - apparently a difficult year in Montalcino. This Brunello is 35% cheaper because the producer rents a vineyard and also rents space in a winery, and therefore claims they can keep cost (and quality??) down. The color is typical with light brick tones; nose is primarily raisinated fruit, a young chianti-like "dusty tannin" smell, and a quite delightful minerality; in the mouth the acid level is high, the tannins prominent, and the alcohol seems higher than the indicated 13.5; the finish is sour cherries and an unbalanced mess. Sigh!

Aug 26th, 2016I really love the Sangiovese grape. Dry herbs, cherry, light with nice structure. Great pasta wine!

Apr 15th, 2016A good Brunello, maybe a bit young - very tannic.

Sep 23rd, 2017Mörka bär; körsbär, svarta vinbär, till och med jordgubb! Viss lakritston i eftersmaken. Lite platt men god!

Aug 6th, 2016Red fruit and rosemary aromas. Dry medium body with good acidity and a fair amount of tannins. Something is lacking but I can't put my finger on what it is.

Mar 25th, 2016Medelfyllig till lättare kropp med bestämd tanninstruktur. Torkad frukt, körsbär, örter och fatkryddor. Väldigt trevligt matvin (örtmarinerade lammracks, semitorkade tomater och stekta gnocchi) men ingen wow-upplevelse. Kan drickas nu eller hållas lite till. 2009
