Malleval Cornas Syrah

2007 vintage. Smoky, meaty, charcuterie, red and black fruits. Needed some decanting but a lovely wine and good value.

Showed much better the second night. Crushed rocks, raspberry, smoked cherries.

Clean fruit, slathered with oak.

2011 cornas

Solid Cornas with 10 years on it. A lite smokiness on the nose to start, and a hint of it lingers, enhancing the profile. Smooth, with a bit of chocolate, earth and mushroom on the palate. Clean, dark red but almost Nebbiolo-like in color. Enjoyed with the New Hampshire Chicken for 2, all three sauces (tarragon, morel, and Coq Au Vin), mushroom and spinach fricassee, and thick cut French fries at Le Coq Rico.

Clean and restrained. Not so much huge chewy Cornas fruit.

Stunner with the Becker Lane entree. Falling in love with this family of wine producers.

Nose: almond sweetness, confectioners sugar, croissant, light roast, crushed rock. Palate: dark chocolate and strawberries, very clean, soft smooth. Lighter body, maintains gentle smokiness.
