Pierre Gaillard
La Dernière Vigne Vin de Pays des Collines Rhodaniennes Syrah
Plump and round, this has blackberry and plum fruit with a peppery finish. There’s some Brett but it’s not overwhelming. Lacking some refinement and structure but that’s nitpicking. A tad pricey, but great with meat off the grill.

Aug 19th, 2021Deep notes of black pepper and clove. Dry, Black fruit, great acidity and easy tannins. One dimensional but very enjoyable none the less.

Jan 22nd, 2019A wonderful light, juicy, elegant take on Northern Rhône Syrah. Great lift and vibrancy. A Pinot-lover's Syrah, to be sure. Pours a ruby of medium (-) concentration. Nose of bright brambly blackberry fruit, pure granite minerality, cracked black pepper, subtle violet, lavender, and thyme herbaceousness, and olive brine. Palate bursts with more brambly black fruit, violet, olive brine, and an extra dose of cool granitic mineral intensity. Medium (+) acid, medium (-) body with soft, supple texture. Gripping yet fine tannins of medium (+) intensity. This spends 12 months in barrique during elevage with 50% new oak but the oak is completely integrated; other than textural contribution and the slightest suggestion of baking spice, it takes a complete backseat. So tasty and a wonderful value at under $20.

Jul 19th, 2015Intense black pepper. Peppy black fruit with electric acidity and a firm yet forgiving grip. Black pepper flavors with a hint of Turkish coffee and black pepper. Did I mention black pepper?
