Opened and slowed to slow-ox hours prior to service. My first Petrus and even when considering this is the 1972, I can sort of see what the fuss is about. It pours an almost deep amber color with signs of sediment. This is a herbaceous, savory wine with a bouquet of dried flowers, pipe tobacco, Fig Newtons, roasted beef, salmiakki, and old wood. Long and velvety, I can only imagine how impressive these wines are in strong vintages. Drink now.

Beautiful and lush. Rounded plum with light floral notes. Cherry and dried flowers. Clearly mature but still sparkling with life. Lush, pure, intense and long.

Roses and dark brambles. Quite intense and very pure. Whiffs of tobacco and a real purity of fruit. Little tang of acidity on the finish with dried orange rind. Still profound

A hint of tar, dried roses, tangy plum. Good soft fruit with a haunting quality Clearly aged but relatively fresh given it’s almost a centurion Pretty and memorable

Very plummy and pure. Delicious with grip and balance. Supple and delicious

Not sure a score is objective when it’s a birth year wine and you’re as bloody old as I am! Nonetheless, spectacular, remarkably fresh and pure. Luscious after 25 mins, rainbow of red berry and camphor, blackcurrant, subtle notes of tea and cassis, chocolate. Last sip was on the back of my palate for minutes. Old but good indeed! Aaron, you’re a Prince!

A gorgeous supple soft nose with cherry and plum and violets in the nose. A lush silky midpalate with precise and not too punchy fruit. Exceptional
