Our second bargain wine of the evening, was the medium ruby-red '09 Petra Zingari Sangiovese Blend. It starts with lovely sweet scents of blackberry, cigar box and smoky earth that are followed by cherry and anise flavors. Light on the palate, but still full-flavored. Some nice floral notes on the aftertaste.

Okay. I returned the TCA monstrosity, for a bottle of the same, and found it drinking as intended. I am a little leery of these formulaic percentages. 25% Merlot/25% Sangiovese/25% Syrah/25% Petite Verdot. It seems a bit like the winemaker becomes unnecessary. What if the Merlot was awful that year, could we have less perhaps? Anyway, this is a value Tuscan from the incredible Petra portfolio, and it is worth the 12$ spent. Soft and fruit forward initially, finishes with a certain wooden bite characteristic of the PV. Consider this review an addendum to the bad one.

Funk baked into a cinnamon apple, fresh cut pumpkin turn to black plum when volatalized. Something eerie about the blend: 25% merlot and equal parts of Sangiovese, Syrah and Petite Verdot. Almost a robotic blend. A zombie robot. There is a charred smoky note throughout that ducks and hides in the tumult of uneven profiles. Black plum flavors with brackish water notes, and dirty aquarium. Think this one is TCA and Brett wreaking (reeking) havoc on the wine. Disturbing and grotesque. I will trade it in for another and post on that. Happens to wine. Just sucks when it happens to one I wanted to taste.

2009 Great value Merlot/Sangiovese/Syrah/Petit Verdot Tuscan. Love the flavor and pairs well with Pizza and other Italian dishes.

A little funky out of the gate with smoke and a bit of leather. After the funk blows off there is a beautiful nose of blueberry, black cherry, toasted oak and wet slate. Fine smooth tannins notes of cherry and oak.
