Pertinace
Barbera d'Alba
Very closed early with moderate sediment so decanting is recommended.
Little nose of wet leaves. Moderate acidity, low tannins. Surprisingly light palate with the acidity dominating. Some unripe fruits or berries but quite subtle.
Overall left wanting. Would probably pair pretty well with fatty fish such as salmon or perhaps thinly sliced cured meats. Easily over powered......."age ingrat"? Might be better with further age.

Classic barbera, clearly smoother alba style, cranberry acid earth, maybe some oak

Nov 23rd, 2015Very nice..had it at our favorite Italian restaurant. Spicy notes, mild tannins, lighter than some reds.

Nov 24th, 2023Deep ruby in color, leaning towards garnet; cherries, plums, and oak on the nose; medium plus acidity; medium tannins; tastes like prunes, tart cherries, and blackberries with a long peppery finish. Nellie didn't like it. I like the intensity, but it is a little off balance, but still enjoyable.

Jul 21st, 2023Deep ruby color; plum, blackberries, herbs, and oak on the nose; high acidity; medium minus tannins; tastes like raisins, cherries, and gravel with a moderate finish. Nellie says the after taste is too oaky, but it was better without food. I think it's a little off balance, but not bad. It was even better after some aeration.

Jul 16th, 2023Cherries and raspberries on the nose. Sour cherries and minerality on the tongue. Lots of acidity.

Mar 26th, 2023N: black cherry, cedar, savory herbs
P: tart sour cherry, juicy, and those savory woodsy herbs. Fairly simple but tasty.

Dark garnet in color. On the nose plum, leather belt, cocoa and flint. On the palate tart cherry, violet, black olives, and finishes with astringent pepper. My tongue is buzzing from the heat, which could be more balanced. Lovely irony finish starting to appear on the finish which reminds me I'm drinking Italian.
