At 17 years of age full of vim and vigour. A perfect mature blend of currant and mocha (oak). Almost resolved tannins but will be good in another 5 years at least. This is the last of a dozen bought on release. Very Good. Better than the 2000 and not quite as good as the excellent 2002.

Doing it easily in its 16th year. Dark Chocolate, black berry and mocha aromas all melded together. Same on the palate. Very Penfolds. Drinking at its peak but will go for a while yet.

Australia makes a specialty of blending Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz and one of the better examples is Penfolds Bin 389. This is an excellent mature wine, doing it easily at 15 years of age, and will go on. Notes of black currant and mint but at this age all the descriptors just melding into "damn good claret". Perfect with roast lamb. 60% Cab Sauv, 40% Shiraz. 2001 vintage.

In comparison with the Dominus from the same year the 389 was more fruit forward. More "Aussie". Trademark mocha choc malt notes with cassis.

Mint and liquorice notes. A refreshingly under fruited and not overly Oaked 389 although with a prominent spine and underlying strength. Satisfying with a long future. 18- 2001 vintage. Doing it easily at 14 years. #aussiewine

Clear, deep garnet; almost black colour. Clean, pronounced black fruits, red berries, liquorice and aniseed on the nose. Dry, exquisitely balanced tannins and acidity. Very full bodied with a long finish. Flavours of blackcurrant, liquorice, mocha and a quite sweet fruitiness. Outstanding wine.

Hard to beat an aged Penfolds. Absolutely amazing front with smooth fruit all the way.

Fabulous. Last of my 2001 cellar. Buy a case a year and put it away. Not Grange, but damn good for the price

Tastes of port straight out of the bottle. More refined with hints of blackberry after resting.
