Time for #MerlotThursday.

Pretty ruby in color with a wide reddish rim and medium intensity.

Light nose of cherries, blueberries, plums, vanilla, light oak, earth, spices, wet leaves, vegetables and black pepper.

Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity and nice legs.

Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, bell pepper, oak, wet leaves, mushrooms, licorice, spices, coffee and pencil lead.

Medium plus in finish with firm tannins and tangy cranberries.

This is a young Merlot from Long Island. Needs an additional 3 to 5 years of bottle time to mature.

This 6 year old is a little austere at this point, and unbalanced.

Wine Enthusiasts 93 points (sorry, can't get there 😊).

Remind me of a $20 Merlot based Bordeaux Supérieur.

Aged for 15 months in French oak barrels (30% new).

13% alcohol by volume.

85 points.

$40.

Quite impressed with this LI Merlot (I NEVER thought I would ever live to be able to say this!) This bottle was a 2010 and I think it would improve with another 5 years.

The good, well-structured 2005s are really singing right now. This is exhibit A.

Plums, cherries, beetroot and pomegranate. Still quite tannic and pithy. Toast, olives, licorice. Lively acidity. Slightly green and vegetal, but the freshness is charming.

This is a delicious Merlot, very well-balanced, with fine tannines and great fruit definition. More concentrated and complex when comparing to the regular Merlot which is also very nice. A wine for Pomerol-lovers with some cellaring potential too. Again, more Bdx-ish than Napa-like.

An admirable try and a nice memory of wine tasting on the North Fork. Dry, earthy, fruit forward, tight. Hard to compare to my best standard, Pride Merlot.

Tasted this this past fall at the vineyards barrel tasting. It was amazing before bottled even better now.
