2017 vintage. Cornas Domaine Saint-Pierre, owned by Jaboulet since 1996 apparently ( amazing that they kept buying vineyards during a period where the wines were not up to standard). Today however, Caroline Frey has put the bar high, and we cannot tolerate anything but excellence from her own vineyards. This 2017 surely delivers. Impressive nose with blackberry, cassis and spices combined with an intense minerality. Layers of juicy black fruits and spices in a powerful frame of ripe tannin, with a long mineral finish. Should age beautifully for a few decades.

Not as tannic and structured as I had expected, this was past its prime with all tertiary aromas and barely perceptible tannins and acid structure.

Vintage is 1999. Lots of tart acid & tannin left, but fruit is mostly faded to orange peel. Nose has some nuances, but Mrs S won't be pleased.

Tart Dark Fruit, Smokey, Salty, Damp Earth, just the right touch of Barnyard, Herbal-Sage, Thyme, Tomato Leaf... Very well balanced. Masculine, but with a touch of femininity... (Like a well-groomed Man!) Held up beautifully the 2nd day too👍👍👍👏👏👏 #DomaineDeSaintPierre #Cornas #2009 #PaulJabouletAine

Showing the infirmities of age, alas. I can relate.

Loaded with blue fruit. Heavy on the oak but should subside with some time. Nice balance here otherwise, fruit & acid. Modernly styled, not what I want in a Cornas but certainly a well made wine. Parker's tasting note said it reminded him of Noel Verset from the 70's and early 80's. While I haven't experienced a Verset that old it seems like a bit of a stretch.

2012 Vintage, a bit cloudy in the glass, dark ruby, palate: black dark fruit, spice, baking spices, tobacco, chocolate beans, vanilla, meaty, medium plus tannin, medium acidity, tannin is there for longer time, can be aged longer. After taste, medium plus, the spices still peak behind the tongue for a long time. Let's have some duck breast!!!!
