Dirty, earthy with figs - well balanced and a super value for a Burgundy

2001 Paul Chapelle Santenay "Graviéres" 1er Cru - Well balanced and holding up nicely. Irony mineral, flinty red cherry, orange peel, hay and mushroom, with medium acid and med(-) tannins. Did well with shitake mushrooms sautéed in goat butter and sweet vermouth served over the Osso Bucco. Enjoyed over a 4 hour period with hard salami and Calabrese as well and it never lost its integrity or tried to close up. Drink now and enjoy.

Has aged into a lovely leather and cherry place. Refreshing and light footed while having some earthy gravitas. Fennel arrives later on the nose.

Beautify mature wine. Direct, straightforward, moderately complex.

100% Pinot Noir

Semi pale, bricked garnet. Transparent. Slightly widened rim.

Bouquet of bright red cherry, cinnamon, with slightly woodsy backend.

Surprisingly tannic still, med plus acidity, dry. Bright red fruits which shows better on the second day. Damp soil tone, stuffy antic, freshly ploughed meadow. Finish long on licoriced fruit cake, baking spices.

Surprisingly lively. Very enjoyable, perfectly mature Burgundy that won't break your bank. Peak. 90.

A beat up label from being moved around in my cellar too much, furry mold in the punt and on the cork, but inside.... Amazingly youthful for 16 years old. Bright, clean, crystalline red fruit. Fresh cranberry, sliced white mushrooms, dry forest floor / autumn leaves, nutmeg, and crisp mountain stream stones.

Decanted for 2 hours which was very helpful. Earthy, leather, soft tannins, soft red fruit. Very enjoyable.
