No question this is a special bottle. Beautiful color showing age. The nose is on fire; a little hot. But it is a smooth drinking, well balanced wine after about 30 minutes decanting.

Better than prior bottles and expected. Some dark cherry fruit left, but more mushrooms, rolled tobacco, white pepper, clove and star anise. Was great with Zuni style roast chicken.

Drinks wonderfully now, but tannins are getting flat as well as accidity. Still a prime example for Scavino and the 1997 Vintage.
