Ripe cherries, pie spices and a hint of funk. Striking and yet charming at the same time. Drinking well already but would probably evolve favorably over the next 5+ years in a cool cellar.

Paolo Bea never ceases to amaze me. The 2011 San Valentino is gorgeous, showing an Autumnal persona, with a bouquet of crushed cherry, plum, and blood orange, giving way to notes of sweet mint, licorice, crushed fall leaves and black tea. On the palate, I found a zesty expression, sporting light yet energetic textures, as citrus-kissed sour cherry, sweet herbal tones and spice filled the senses. The finish was medium-long and literally thirst quenching, with mouthwatering acidity accentuating it's red fruits and lingering inner floral tones which faded slowly. An amazing "entry level" wine. #paolobea #montefalco #sagrantino

Some wildness coming on strong, needed a little time to burn off the bretty funk. After an hour was hitting on lots of crunchy dark red fruits and earthy savory parts. Great drank!

Very definitive. Big dark fruit. Cherry and plum. Little bit of tannin. Fun one.

Depth of both flavor and color. Very full bodied. Overwhelmed the fish a bit but still@excellent Lingering flavor on the palate. Tannin and fruit balanced

Gorgeous florals and silky tannins. A perfect pair with a bee sting.

Deep leathery tobacco smell, slight hibiscus, the taste is prune and tobacco but there’s a raspberry hidden in the back, like the dark chocolate raspberries in a great cake, and a bit of cocoa too, the prunes come back in at the end with a perfect bright candied sweetness, the body carries forward in delicate waves, wrapped in a deep tannin that pecks consistently and then dissolves with a Thai chili linger at the end.

2nd bottle after a 5 hr rest was more my speed. Still a bit of a dense funk but really intense fruit and earth flavors.
