Monthly WTF group recap. Theme this month was “bring something special”. Normally we taste all of the wines blind, but we decided to do a relaxed night with amazing wines at a great restaurant. Spectacular evening!

I consistently find these wines to be very soft and plush. A very approachable mix of dark fruits with sweet spice and oak on the nose. Velvet like on the palate with red, blue and black fruits alongside baked fig. The finish has nutmeg, sweet cocoa and baking spices. Thanks

To me the ‘02 North Coast vintage was one of the best early drinkers I can recall. Just amazing vibrancy from the top producers. At age 17 this was very nice but lacked pop and fell off obviously on the mid palate. Drink now. Pop and pour.

Big, tobacco leaf nose leads a full and layered smooth cocoa palate. This needs time but will go from great to outstanding.

Part 1 of the final and main event for the Fall WNH. The most spectacular lineup of wines I’ve ever seen, and an overall wonderful ending to an amazing trip with fantastic people.

One of the best older Napa wines I’ve had. Astounded at how the flavor profile shows such dark notes of both fruit and secondary notes. Muddled raspberries and underripe black cherry. Pipe tobacco, currant and a touch of leather. Incredible structure on the palate and while tannins and acid have mostly integrated, this is years away from a full decline. Bravo,
@Bill Bender !

Always well above the waterline. Needs time. Lacking the depth and complexity that I’ve come to expect from this winery. Still very strong, but with time, I’m hoping it’s gonna step up into a heavier weight class. Mixing metaphors, but you get the point.

Second wine at Chops Grill aboard the Harmony of the Seas. Deep and dark ruby red with lighter edges. Given a four hour decant. Dark nose that was a bit tight to start. Some notes of dark berries, plums, cinnamon, anise and a little floral. Heavy tannins (7.5/10) and full bodied. Still tastes so young but well integrated with notes of oak, dark cherries and spices. Long and lingering finish. Drink till 2032.
