Olivier Riviere La Bastia 2019, one of Riojas young guns and a big part of the postmodern revolution of the region. Le Bastid is a 90% Viura, 10% Garnacha Blanca, fermented and matured in 500 liter French oak barrels.
With resemblance to a good Burgundy the wine opens up with ripe white stonefruit (plum juice, white peaches) and a lemongrass herbiness. Followed by a whiff of toast and nuts that lies over a stoney minerality. Good energy on the palate with a fresh acidity and savoury qualities on the mid palate that brings dimension and complexity through the finish.
Paired with an improvised salmon and shrimp casserole in a mushroom infused velouté topped with fried parsley and sourdough croutons.
Serve it at 10-12 degree in a burgundy glass

Serious and seriously exceptional from a French master making Burgundy style Rioja. It’s more Burgundy though - expertly integrated oak (French) and acid - equally intense and graceful. Pale and powerful tutorial in balance.

Medelfyllig och frisk. Äpplen, päron och lite tropisk frukt med gröna stick. Kardemumma och kokos. Landar inte helt perfekt nu men kanske skulle harmoniseras mer av ytterligare lagring.
