North By Northwest (NxNW)
Walla Walla Valley Syrah
From King Estate's North by Northwest project in Walla Walla is this 2013 Syrah. Ripe and heavy with black cherries, plums, cedar and incense. Juicy black fruit leads the charge on the palate, cradled in moderate toast and lovely earthy-leathery undertones. There's a nice streak of acidity to add lift to a wine that has a fair amount of intensity and brooding character. Sample

Dec 23rd, 2014Nose of violets, blackberries, tar, and beef fat. Ripe dark fruits on the palate with some olive and chocolate. Medium acidity and tannins that are pretty silky. Good oak integration.
Distinctly new world, but with restraint and skilled winemaking. Good stuff.
