By far the most earthly wine I ever tried. Wind, smoke, pronounced grilled bread when just opened. A really rare variety, Mouhtaro, fortunately not to be found easily. Like a good poetry.

Sipping Fine Wine

Mouhtaro is a very rare red grape variety that was rescued thanks to the efforts of Athanasios Zacharias. It is cultivated and vinified only in the Valley of the Muses. Deep purple color, with aromas of ripe red fruits and big spices, full-bodied, with pronounced tannins and noticeable acidity. A unique wine with a taste unlike other red wines. Tasting Sample.

Vintage 2014 / On discovery trips I have dissapointments but also fantastic finds. Our local greek wineseller Kostas ❤️ told me to try this wine from the curious grape Mouhtaro. Rescued thanks to Athanasios Zacharias, only grown in the Valley of the Muses. It’s absolute fantastic 💥💥💥 A smell like a ripened St Estephe: earthy, flint, só rich with impressions of chocolate, vannilla, mocca combined with red fruit like cherries springing up... and I did not mention the spicyness (reminded me of Musar Libanon). The taste is very compelling, smooth and insidious easy drinking. 🙃 I bow my head deeply for the winemaker! / Paired with grilled Tunafish and pepper bell with capers / Trouvaille!!

Great wine, some fruit bouquet, went well with chuck pot roast.

Never had a wine like this! Literally smoke coming out of the glass and herbaceous dark cherry coating my palette. Balanced and persistent. The Greek varietal love affair continues.
