Cliff Edge Shiraz

Consistent with previous notes earlier this year and also in 2020. Pepper and spice with plum and sour cherry. Riper notes than usual with this Cuvée. One of my favourites for around $30 in Australia.

See previous notes on 2 tasting occasions. Coincidentally all at Paros on the Beach Apartments - all 3 tastings. One of my favourite 2nd wines in Australia. Often associated with white pepper, this exhibits more plum and spice. A very good wine and great QPR.

Aromatics of blackberry and black pepper. Hints of cedary oak in the background with liquorice and a touch of dried meat - Northern Rhone in style. Cliff Edge is the 2nd Cuvée of Mt Langi Ghiran - a long time favourite producer for me. The perfect wine with Lamb Chops.

Bright red with youthful purple tinges. Fresh aromatic notes showing its youth with spice and peppercorn. A medium bodied Syrah in the northern Rhone cool climate mould. Have always loved this wine and possibly my favourite Under $30 red in Australia. It’s elder brother the “Langi” has skyrocketed in price to $160 a bottle but the Cliff Edge has remained around the $30 mark. Great QPR. Had another bottle 43 weeks later on December 30 2020 with consistent notes although lacking a little fruit - possibly the cooler vintage. Still excellent QPR. Also at Paros like the first bottle.

Mid Ruby in colour. Spicy with a little white pepper on the nose. On the palate spicy savoury Cherry notes. The 2nd wine of the iconic Langi from Mount Langi Ghiran. Finishing with Medium plus intensity and ultra soft tannins. One of the best $30 wines around.

Aromas of Cherry Spice Pepper and Earth. Northern Rhone in style. Like this interpretation of Aussie Shiraz. Medium bodied with medium minus tannins. Probably my favourite Under $30 Red wine in Australia. This is the 2nd wine to the big gun “Langi” from this producer. From the Grampians District in Central Victoria.

Typical sexy Aussie Shiraz Euca-berry spice oak fun

This is the 2nd wine of one of my favourite Aussie Reds the Mt Langhi Ghiran Langhi. This wine opened with cherry Spicy aromas with a whiff of honeycomb (Oak). Normally more white pepper with these reds. Medium weight palate. An excellent wine for around $30. Not particularly complex at 4 years but fresh and enjoyable for a midweek quaffer.

This Australian Shiraz deftly combines intensity and finesse, offering sappy dark berry and spice character with seamless texture. While plenty of Aussie Shiraz is made in a full-throttle style, this wine impresses with elegance, not power. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, Dec 2017) $25.00
