Montagu Wines
Las Francas Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc
My love and affinity of Montagu is well documented on here, so no need for me to keep lavishing praise. That being said, if you enjoy bigger style SBs (Bevan, Arkenstone, etc), you need to try this. This has gotten SIGNIFICANTLY better over the last 6 months. "Sauv Blanc done the hard way" says Weston (winemaker) due to the oak aging here. I'm holding on to some of these to see how they age out. Right now though, it burst out of the glass with such force that you wonder if this is really a SB. So much tropical fruit and citrus, peaches, red/orange fleshy fruits. Acidity is perfect...chalkiness note up front and the finish is lengthy. Could even benefit from a quick decant...if you can resist drinking it!

Oct 7th, 2017Peaches and tropical fruit smack you on the nose. This wine is tart and quite acidic on the palate with tropical fruits and melon dominating, but there is a great oak integration that pulls it all together. This definitely could use some bottle aging. As good as it is now, I think will be awesome in a few years. Also for the record perhaps I should have decanted this white a la @David L - as time in glass improved this wine. Very nice and thanks to @Shay Aldriedge for introducing me to this winery.

Jan 9th, 2019Yeah, so the weather went to steamy and humid after almost 4 days of solid rain. WTF, this one gets pulled ASAP! Although this one has seemed to lose its acidic grip, the minerality and Limestone qualities are met with good citrus fruit, but starting to develop more of a honeydew and melon note towards the finish. Extremely enjoyable. Have one more left. Might keep it for a few years to see what happens! This one certainly has the weight and structure to go another few years at least. Email sent to Weston to acquire more!!!

May 1st, 2018Last bottle of the night, too much cat urine on the nose for my taste, nose stands out since we had a neighborhood cat that marked his territory on our front door when we had an indoor cat. decant an hour & then it dissipates a bit.
Greystack is my favorite for the past couple years, thoughts @Shawn R ?

My first Montagu Sauv Blanc. Opened late and tried it before it warmed a bit. Once it did, it became so aromatic! Delicious SB and a great value. Tropical fruits, guava and even a crazy banana note the closer it came to room temp. Fascinating. I’m serious about the banana.

Feb 20th, 2018Probably one of the most balanced SB's I've ever had. Rather thick. To some people who went into this one blind, they might guess Chardonnay. I was getting lots of lemon rind curd and there is a dustiness in the middle. Finishes strong and with lots of citrus notes, definitely with a weighted density and body that makes this one pretty damn delicious.
