Carelle Sous La Chapelle Volnay 1er Cru Pinot Noir

Decided to compare 22 and 23. Oh man is this seductive. The nose is just deep ocean. Black cherry, dark red cherry, symphony of herbs, huge blackberry flower and blackberry and just so deep. The palate is just amazing. Opulent and just insanely deep with blackberry and black cherry fruit that is just so impressive and pure. Opulent and round and with insane purity. Unreal energy but the story here is seduction and purity. Stunning.

I adore this site. The texture is always on point. Restrained opulence is the calling card here. Nose is super complex and stoney out of the gates. Really a mess of limestone and some fresh hermes Then the intense ripe cherry leaks through. Black cherry, red cherry, sour cherry all at once. Nuclear levels of spice, stone and even some mulberry. Superb balance and energy with compelling sweetness and stoniness. Lush, plush texture that will get even more lush and plus with air. Very seductive. Oh man the tiny berry fruit intensity is off the charts. Juicy and so sweet but backed up by insane energy and stoniness. Opening by the minute. Terrific inner mouth aromas and just amazing velvety tannins. 9.5 for now but let’s see the go higher with air.

First time since barrel in summer of 23 and it blew me away then. Gorgeous and pointed cherries on the nose, some minerals, bittersweet cocoa, spice, metal shavings and more. Gorgeous but will need some time to become more aromatic. Palate is a little discombobulated on the PNP but it’s all there. Grippy, dramatic fruit, amazing length and fruit density, gorgeous purity and grandiose minerality. It needs to come together though. It will. Really coming into its own with minimal air as that finesse is something else. And so so juicy. So fresh and energetic and what amazing fruit cling!! With air this comes alive with just exquisitely perfumed fruit. Perfect balance. Really great.

Haunting and classic nose. Elegant and gorgeous mid to late season cherries. Lifted and bright. Gorgeous depth, refinement and minerality. Superb juiciness and energy. Lovely acidity and depth. Treacly and ripe but so complex. I love this. A tick below the 19. Now the stoney minerality shows up on the nose as does the florals. Classic and beautiful. Saline. Unreal purity. Juicy and so complex with ripe and sweet tannins and wonderful sweet fruit. A bit young and tooti frooti but air will regulate it. That nose is so good and the the highlight so far. Superb length on the palate.

This is as good a Volnay as I’ve had in 2019 and is easily the best Volnay William has made. Haunting, deeply penetrative nose of minerals, pulverized rock dust, black and dark red cherries that are so elegant and so refined you’d think you’re drinking d’Angerville. Amazing scent of the best bubblegum ever but so subtle and refined. Confectionery but showing ultimate restraint. Beautiful. A work of aromatic art. Wow is that palate just an elegant masterpiece of balance and drop dead purity. This is so close to Brisset it’s not funny. Wow is this a divine bottle of Volnay. It’s so fine, so delicate and so refined. This is liquid silk. Cherries galore but the restraint here for how awesome and perfect this is is what keeps one coming back. An absolute masterpiece. No sure why this is not a 9.7.

too young. A bit lean but soft and lovely. First time w this producer. Teo hours later it’s picked up weight and spice, good depth.
