Tucked into this little gem tonight. Black Label Metala Shiraz 2010 from @saltramwines rich and vibrant, dark stewed plums with blackberry fruit and hint of chocolate on the nose. Mulberry dark fruits on the palate with fine tannins and persistent length. Very smooth and youthful. Yum.

Astonishing longevity, still fruity but high alcohol (14.5%), and typical sweetness of new world wine. Complex and delicious.

Pungent, paint thinner nose. There's more hidden beneath, but it's overpowered. The harshness continues into the back palate, which then falls off pretty fast. Within that there's some lovely dark, brooding sour cherry notes and a hint of dusty chocolate. Pity that the harshness detracts a little too much.

As with so many new world wines, it's a bit sweet, but stunning fruit persists, long after expected drinking window. Smooth, complex, delicious.

One of those reds that's delicious from the first taste. Didn't need any opening up. Spicy nose, rich, musky red berries.
