There's a thread on YourSay, the Vinous forum, discussing everyday Sauvignon Blancs. Matua was mentioned by a collector I admire as being pretty good. My mother-in-law is an enthusiastic consumer of these wines and is fully stocked, so I thought I'd give it a whirl... The 2019 Matua is a very pale green. Plenty of acidity, nice grassy notes, a touch of zest. Rather short but not insipid. Perfectly reasonable plonk to start an evening.

Classic example of NZ Sauvignon Blanc with grapefruit, gooseberries and green bell pepper. Nice acidity on a value wine.

Sharp, crisp, refreshing, with floral and honey (?) notes. Loved by everyone. Compared with a bordeaux sauvignon blanc, preferred this Malborough on much better. Bought at $27 from Cold Storage on discount. Served with asparagus risotto. Girls night in.

Had this wine many times over the years and for less than $10 it’s a pretty good deal. I got cat pee right away followed by grassy herbaceous notes, zippy & nervy, it also showed tart green citrus and once it warmed up the tropical fruit emerged. Thin light bodied - brief thirst quenching finish.
