There's a thread on YourSay, the Vinous forum, discussing everyday Sauvignon Blancs. Matua was mentioned by a collector I admire as being pretty good. My mother-in-law is an enthusiastic consumer of these wines and is fully stocked, so I thought I'd give it a whirl... The 2019 Matua is a very pale green. Plenty of acidity, nice grassy notes, a touch of zest. Rather short but not insipid. Perfectly reasonable plonk to start an evening.

1 person found it helpfulApr 18th, 20202019 Matua Sauvignon Blanc. Nice, round tropical fruit and some tartness. A little sweet, but quite refreshing chilled (color changing snowflake ❄️ on the label). Paired well with scallops and asparagus.
I did NOT taste any of the citrus/grapefruit of earlier vintages 2016, 17, as described by others. Def more of a tropical lychee-grape-melon . Overall a nice wine, and better than many at the same price point.
