11' Matthiasson NAPA Valley Red. 56% Merlot 32% CB 8% CF 2% PV. ALC 13.5
Decanted for an hour. Color- Dark violet/light purple. Medium bodied. Palate- Black cherry, dark chocolate, tobacco, earthiness, with light tannins. Right bank? That would be an easy guess. Would like to revisit this again in 3/5 years. Nice bottle.

Really a lovely wine. Nice to try with a good bit of age - was hoping this would turn out this way! Probably would have guessed right bank blind, although the fruit does have a slightly more exuberant Napa character I suppose. Still quite peppery to balance the Merlot dominated blend. 13.5%. Wonderful nose. Quite enjoyed.

Always great! PnP. Medium red color. Nose contained cedar, oak, and subtle cherries. Not a ton of fruit and had some green elements but good depth and plenty of terroir. Medium finish. 93.5, so I’ll round up.

Delicious red from Matthiasson. Age has done it well. Still benefits from some air.

For a poor vintage, this was very nice. Bordeaux all the way. 1+ hr decant. Rustic red color. Nose of cedar and cherries. Wine is refined and has a lovely texture. Smoke, wood, and earth on the palate. Medium depth. Decent finish.

1hr+ decant. Dark red color with subtle purple rims. Cherries, earth, oak, and minor green elements on the nose. Lovely texture with dark cherries and green peppers on the palate. Lacks depth and is high in tannins. Tough vintage. Medium minus finish. This also started out strong but then proceeded to fade.

Always a favorite. 1hr+ decant. Restrained nose of cherries and cedar. The wife got apples and vanilla on the palate, I had more dark cherries. Lacked some depth and was more tannic than other vintages. Medium minus finish.
