Dunnigan Hills Tempranillo
Dark ruby in color with a purplish rim.
Fruity on the nose with blackberries, blueberries, earth, forest floor, pencil lead, licorice, beef jerky, smoke, oak, vanilla, cedar, eucalyptus, herbs, spices and peppercorn.
Tart on the attack, and on the palate, blueberries, cherries, raspberries, pomegranates, vanilla, tobacco, spices, peppercorn, herbs, light Cola notes, beef jerky and earth.
Medium finish with soft tannins and sour raspberries.
This tempranillo is good with food but not so much by itself. Unbalanced, but with nice complexity. The nose reminds me of a $15 Cabernet blend from California.
Better after 15 minutes, but as it opens up, it becomes tart, and looses its tannins. Not my taste, but it is drinkable.
13.9% alcohol by volume.

Aromatic nose. Fruity but lacks structure. Probably better with food.

Dec 6th, 2015Spice box, and cherries on the nose. Cherry compote, cinnamon, cloves and vanilla round out with smoke, tobacco and cedar on the relatively short finish. Tannins were ripe and dense, almost chewy. This one was almost past it's prime but a nice wine with brisket tacos.

Nov 2nd, 2013Clearly identifiable as Temptanillo, with softer edges than Spanish renditions, obviously. But they beef it up with some Cab. Not complicated, but works well.

Apr 23rd, 2013Dark. Like the flesh of a Bing cherry. Aroma is fresh. Red berry. Very fresh in the mouth still too. Tart, tanninic and forest-y. There is this unique Tempranillo flavor in this. Reminds me of Spanish stuff.

Oct 21st, 2022Looks like dark and deep red wine. Smells funky. Flint, cooking blackberries, potpourri, and wet soil. Flavors are smooth, ripe and true to the Temp. Balance is nice. Smoked meats, herbs, cherries, and membrillo quince paste. Still bites hard with tannins on the way out. Excellent age-able Tempranillo. I waited 6 years, it could last 10-20.
