Especially for the price range (17) bright orange stone fruit from that AVA, great acidity, a bit much on the oak but balanced pretty well

Single-handedly responsible for the creation of Sonoma's Bennett Valley AVA, Matanzas Creek Winery has been championing the appellation since 1977. Winemaker Marcia Torres Forno, originally from Chile, moved to Napa Valley and cut her teeth at Cardinale as an enologist and later Kendall-Jackson as an assistant winemaker, before landing at Matanzas Creek in 2010. Their 2015 Sonoma County Chardonnay is full-frontal malo. Popcorn butter, roasted hazelnut, poached pear, with a side of grilled tropical fruit salad of guava, mango, and papaya.

Clear, clean Bright straw yellow color. Aromas of stone and tropical fruits. The palate shows pear, mango and peach with citrus zest. The finish has balanced acidity, some mineral tones, good mouthfeel with a medium finish. Good value.

Sourced from vineyards high above Alexander Valley, the wine was light straw yellow color, fresh and crisp with citrus and stone fruit aromas, slightly floral. The palate showed peaches, apple and pear flavors, with lemon, oak and mineral notes, lively acidity and balance with the touch of vanilla. The 2014 was a bit creamier than the 2013. The finish was about medium with a good mouthfeel and ended with toasty oak notes. A delightful and refreshing Chardonnay at a good value!
