Mastroberardino
Nova Serra Greco di Tufo
Continuing the theme of older Italian wines… I’ve had this Greco lying around for a while and tonight it seemed like something I should open with pesto pasta. After 15 years, this once steely lean wine has fattened into a wonderful saline butterscotch concoction with lemon rind. But there’s also still a fantastic petrichor quality to the wine that brings me back to the glass.

Aug 27th, 2018Round, fresh squeezed pomelo, green pear. Nice eucalyptus/minty freshness with some smokiness. Definitely improves with air

Aug 10th, 2018Citrus, anise, white pepper, white flower aromas. Crisp yellow apple and subtle tropical quality on the palate with a grippy, herbal pine resin quality on the finish. Shimmering acidity throughout, showing nice tension between yellow/green fruits and spicy/herbaceous phenolic character. A bit pricy for Tufo, but obviously a serious wine that is perfectly suited to Mediterranean food and is a wonderful apertif.

Aug 2nd, 2018Monthly wine group met up and had an Italian wine night at one of the local Italian BYOB spots. Really fantastic Italian wines were brought, as well as some random bottles that were outside the theme (but worthy of opening regardless of theme).
Haven’t had many Italian white wines, but this was pretty unique. Very honeyed and tropical on the nose but the texture was fairly full with little acidity. Best enjoyed slightly chilled.

Apr 27th, 2018Flashback to Amalfi coast and swimming in the Mediterranean. Fresh fish olive oil tomatoes garlic. Oh yeah. This wine is perfect in that setting.

Jun 16th, 2014Excellent Greco, so austere and mineral. No fruit, just clean Greco flavor with very dry, stone-like flavor and finishing with a crisp acidity. Greco is not my favorite grape, but this wine is a great example. This wine goes well with creamy pasta.
