La Bâtie Terres de Viennae Red Rhone Blend
This is in a great spot. Gorgeous nose. Bright berry fruit and a hint of cassis. Clay and granite. Floral and has a really tremendous perfume. Mint and cocoa as well. Very complex. Palate is juicy, textured and bright. Very pure and lovely gravelly granite like texture and flavor. Berry fruit and gaminess on the finish. Lovely. Ripe and sweet tannins and excellent length. This has great concentration and freshness.

Aug 3rd, 2021Nose is a bit reduced at first. There’s black fruit power and some florals under that though. It takes 15 minutes for the reduction to end. Then so floral, granite, mineral and deeply fruited. Gorgeous. The palate is deep, powerful and refined. So juicy and lovely sweetness with sweet velvety tannins and lovely blackberry and raspberry fruit. So refined. Terrific brightness to the fruit and really intense with tiny berry fruit complexity. Excellent wine.

May 14th, 2019One of most unique, delicious and intriguing wines in the Northern Rhone. Stunning vintage for this wine. Nose of spice, granite, mineral, loam, game, meat, black fruit, potting soil and fresh flowers. Stunningly pure. Palate is just amazing. It’s like a reverse Côte Rotie (from Vienne) in that it’s like Côte Rotie in quality I’d say but the flavors, textures and structure are different. It’s less floral, more earthy and has more blackberry tang and different tannins. I love it and the quality is so high yet so unique. If you threw 10-15 more producers over there you’d have an appellation that would really complete with Côte-Rotie. So juicy, very deep, very earthy, intense concentration and power with black fruits, great freshness and amazing complexity. Lovely spice on the impressively building finish.

Lovely velvet fruit, minerals at fore. Marvelously soft, given time. Perfect with ribeye tomahawk (kosher salt, smidge garlic, iron skillet -- manly).

1 person found it helpfulJan 31st, 2016I love this wine. Like a Cote-Rotie except from across the river. Meaty, rich and gamey. Also very floral. Kiss of dark berries. Great freshness and richness with good chewy dense fruit and perfectly integrated oak. So dense and juicy wiry lovely clarity and vivid black fruits. Needs 30 minutes to sing.

Jan 29th, 2017Super fragrant. Concentrated and compact. So soft and pure. Excellent. Big wine that screams for a steak.

Jan 28th, 2016Really a beautiful and captivating Syrah apparently from right across from Cote-Rotie. Decanted 5+ hours and I recommend that at this stage. So much dark fruit - cherry, some plum - just delicious. Wonderful mouthfeel and a nice long finish with excellent acid. Has a certain seamlessness to it that makes it easy to keep drinking. Great with skirt steaks on the grill.
