Inferi Montepulciano d'Abruzzo

A big boy with a clear Italian edge. Honestly, it was a difficult blind for me but JS, who brought the wine, sure did know how to make it a fun game of options. Discernible oak, JS’ chicanery, and the “Luce” like bottle shape pushed me right into the Super Tuscan camp. Then bam! A Montelpuciano was revealed. No one got it. The wine itself was not for me, but clearly left a good impression for others on the table. Ripe and sweet cherries, plums, toasty wood, smoke, tobacco, warm earth, and a touch of vanilla.

I guess I have had many different vintages. Who knew?? Big wine always seems to bring it.

Deep ruby coloration. A little translucency around the edges. On the nose, dark cherry, smoke, oak, warm spice, earth and minerals. On the palate, it mirrors the nose to a great degree with a long finish, earthiness, dark cherry, toasted oak spice and vanilla. After breathing for a few hours, the nose took on more hints of cocoa. On the palate, the wine was also less tight and also somehow less complex. The notes were more dominated by cherry, vanilla and oak. Still very nice, less bitter; full bodied and still with strong tannins present. A great value at under $30 from a friend importing directly you from the producer.

Bright ruby color with a garnet rim. Aromas and flavors of cooked dark cherry, red currant, vanilla, tobacco and bakers chocolate. Very pleasant herbal quality on the lengthy and earthy finish. Full bodied. Well balanced and harmonious. Big and powerful. Solid.

Absolutely delicious. Complex fruit flavor with a strong finish.

Much like the ‘16 I had a while back, the same flavor profile. Ripe black cherry and has the color to match. Chocolate, cocoa. It’s to hot but a giant plate of pasta would be really good right now.

Brilliantly delicious. Pure ripe middle of summer black cherry on the nose and palate. Loved it
