Marchesi di Barolo
Maràia Barbera del Monferrato
Monferrato, Piedmont, Italy
I’m not overly enthused by this houses Barolo…
HOWEVER!
This is a gem.
Juicy red fruit. Well balanced. Lingering finish. Bigger than what it should be.

Medium ruby in the glass with subtle red fruit aromas. Tart red fruit flavors with herbal hints including dried hay. Tannins are drying and the finish is fairly long and juicy. Light to medium body. Easy to drink on its own.

Full body even for a Barbera, though that does help provide a creamy, vinous quality.

Strong. Tart. Good fruit. Not as much mineral as I expected. But for price very good

Dark ruby in color with medium intensity and a pink rim.
Soft nose of strawberries, sour cherries, raspberries, vanilla, red currants, candy, licorice, forest floor, green vegetables, graphite, earth and black pepper.
Light to medium in body with high acidity and nice legs.
Tart on the attack and dry on the palate, with raspberries, red currants, licorice, plums, strawberries, oak, forest floor, green vegetables, herbs, earth, pencil lead and peppercorn.
Medium plus in finish with soft tannins and tart cranberries.
A good quality red wine, but not my style.
Tart and unbalanced, however, complex and interesting.
Good food wine and not a good sipping wine.
13% alcohol by volume.

Bright, fresh, juicy. Rounder than expected for a Barbera of such youth. Maraia 2013.

Jul 2nd, 2015Meh. I'm surprised, because it's a Bi-Rite pick.
