Javernières Morgon Gamay
These wines take forever to come around. Tight as nails still. Will be a beauty in 5 years!

Licorice and even a hint of grapefruit. Palate is dazzlingly fresh and vibrant with gorgeous velvety tannins and terrific length. Still seems young at 15. What wines these were in their youth. Can’t believe how glacially they are aging. Fruit is there on the palate but not as much as I’d like there to be.

2 people found it helpfulApr 23rd, 2019I know these are built to age but after a number of nights of drinking wonderful older wines we wanted something a bit…fresher tonight. With a 3+ hour decant this definitely fit the bill. Very deep in the glass - almost purple. Quite burgundian but the crunchiness keeps this in Beaujolais. Excellent red fruit. Tannins are quite tight and teeth staining but the finish is lovely with great refreshing acid. Nice pairing with simple roast chicken thighs, and an excellent value <$30. Going to send some to storage.

Apr 15th, 2017Agree w some comments that it is tight as a button & needs time/decant if now. Still, nothing flabby here & core Morgon etched in; Try in 2/3 yrs. And yes, enjoyed it now!

Jan 21st, 2017Also a bit bretty and tight as a drum for a 10+ year wine. Some fun funk but a little out of balance and volatile.
