2013. Rich, meaty, smoky with overlaying notes of cherry and decaying flowers. Finishes with bright fruit and lengthy minerals.

Italian wine labels can be a tad confusing when you’re use to the local wine labels you see here in Australia. So what’s what on this Begali Valpolicella D.O.C. Classico Superiore Ripasso 2014 label?

Producer = Begali Lorenzo
Vineyard location = Le Cengia
Appellation (legally defined area/subregion) = Valpolicella DOC
Type/style of wine = Classico Superiore Ripasso
Vintage = 2014

What the front label doesn’t say is that it’s made from a blend of Corvina 65%, Rondinella 30%, other autochthonous grapes 5% it that the region is Veneto, Italy. Thank goodness for Google hey!

In the glass it’s a ruby garnet red with black and red fruits, vibrant oak/vanilla and a hint of caramel. In the mouth it’s juicy with plump fruity and lots of flavour. There a little bit of tannin and a nice balance of food-friendly acidity.

Sample received from Vino Bambino - thank you 🇮🇹

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy! #winesample
