Naturally, I had to ask my older brother – Logan, to help me taste this new release from Logan Wines in Orange, NSW. A big thanks to Logan Wines for sending over this sample for us to taste!

And funnily enough this Weemala Sauvignon Blanc is the ‘little sister’ to Logan’s premium range Sauv Blanc. So naturally we were were both very much qualified to taste this wine 😉

I love this quote from winemaker, Peter Logan about the wine:

Sauvignon Blanc from Orange is sublime, with a remarkable depth and complexity despite the region’s cold climate. A versatile grape, Sauvignon Blanc can produce either a wine that is fresh and vibrant, or a more textured and creamy style. I’ve relished the challenge of creating a new example with our inaugural Weemala Sauvignon Blanc, which is more crunchy and fruit forward than our Logan savvy, yet still resonated with the unique characteristics of the Orange terroir.”

So what did big brother Logan think of the wine? With the help of his wife, Paula, and Mr Spittoon & myself, this is what we all came up with:

It’s a light pale yellow colour in the glass with notes of passionfruit cheesecake, lime and a hint of flint on the nose. In the mouth it’s zesty, limey and most definitely crunchy with a nice flavoursome finish.

In the Weemala range you’ll also find a Pinot Gris, Riesling and Pinot Noir. Which all have a RRP of $20.

This bottle was sent to me directly from Logan Wines.

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!

Drank 5/21/21

From first sniff, I could tell this Sauvignon Blanc was different from most I had tried before. There was an undertone of creaminess and an intense ripeness to the wine’s fruit tones. Pear, passionfruit, green apple and hints of mango were accompanied by an undertone of fresh cream.

On the palate, the wine was sensationally balanced. It had a hefty body enough to stand up to Filipino egg rolls (lumpia) and refreshing fruit and acidity that washed over my whole mouth.

Everyone in my family remarked that they enjoyed the wine. So far, this holds the gold standard for New World Sauvignon Blanc for me.
