First of the two grenaches we tried from Lightning Wines, both were tasted over two days. On day one we gave this wine a two hour decant after shooting a quick email to Brooke. The wine was very tight, on the nose and on the palate, even after the two hour decant. Bright crimson red. You can smell the acidity coming from the glass, lots of red cherries, and some floral undertones as it started to open up in the evening. A little bit of heat on the palate with a pinch of white pepper and some light baking spices like nutmeg. A little bit of chalk as well and a strong undertone of red fruits throughout the entire palate, from beginning to finish. Moderate tannins (7/10) with a moderate body, solid acidity too. Long and lingering finish with just a little minerality. This grenache definitely opened up on day two. The nose on day two added additional elements of grilled herbs and sun dried fruits. On the palate there was still a little bit of heat but a few hours later that disappeared and left the long finish very smooth. This wine definitely has a ton of potential and is one of our favorite Grenaches we have tried in 2016. Drink till 2028.

Good with BBQ, really brings out the pepper. Has really smoothed out, nice drinking.
