"this Merlot pours out dark Ruby with notes of black fruit, chocolate, and tobacco (with maybe gunpowder?), and a strong jammy body". From Cortona's Leuta winery, 1,618 is the "Super-Tuscan".

2014- strong fruit aroma. hint of plum, then moves to a bit of dark cherry. Strong tannins. Soft earthy finish.

This is a very charming smallish winery in Tuscany. Their approach is counterintuitive in that their wine is not necessarily meant to be cellared and the are producing merlot and Sauvignon blanc in a place where you don’t normally see it. The merlot is excellent and has characteristics of a Sangiovese with refined tannins. This is different in a very good way. Cheers Denis and Jennifer

I actually visited this vineyard two months ago and had a private tasting with the owner Denis Zeni. I'm not a big merlot fan but like this one so much I bought a few cases. It's full bodied with hits of black cherries, strawberry and tons of red fruit. In my opinion this wine is not one dimensional like most merlots. Albeit this winery is known for its Cabernet Franc which I love.

Amazing Italian wine restaurant that's been open a month in Copenhagen. Wines on the shelf are the same price at the table - an anomaly for Denmark (or any country for that matter!)

This wine would be excellent served with a strong or hard cheese (big flavor) and with a dark truffle and olive paste! Bellisimo!

Ripe but not heavy. Cheer fruit and a hit of mint. A bit too much wood perhaps, but well made and nice.
