Vacquerayas Grenache - Syrah Blend

Smells of dried plum

Heavy in body. Mint, cedar, blackberry (dried) green olive, saline and seed.
Huge mouth puckering tannins, apricot acidity.
I believe a few years would do this wine well. Cellar for 5 years.

Smells of caramel

Raspberry, blackberry and licorice, horehound, black olive, mint.
Gravel and dusty tannin.
A good producer at a good price.

Mayhaps too sweet are the Rings of Saturn

A good Grenache-Syrah combination. Bright cherries and red berries from the Grenache, with some blackberries in the background from the Syrah. Followed by soft white peppers that balanced out the fruit well enough. Had this paired with a seafood platter appetizer and venison as the main. Would have liked the fruits to be a bit fuller and lush.

Dec 30, 2019. Dinner w/ Jack D, Caitlin, and J2 and an impromptu Halos de Jupiter Rhône tasting. This Vacqueyras (85% Grenache, 15% Syrah) was the fav of us all. Full bodied, deep red. Complex. Deep red fruit. Yummy.
