Les Halos de Jupiter (Philippe Cambie)
Costières de Nîmes Red Rhone Blend
Deceptively hot. Good flavor. New world style.

Jan 23rd, 2024Floral nose, like fresh pansies complete with soil.
Soft, cherry filled, lavender jelly, heavier bodied wine with just that easy going attitude.
Not too exciting, yet I like the producers.

Very fruit forward. Notes of plum and black tea on the nose.

Jan 28th, 2019The Halos de Jupiter label never fails to impress me! I confess, I didn't have high expectations for this southern Rhône wine since it was under $15 (on sale). It is smooth with a bite from the alcohol, just like I would expect. With 80% Grenache, you get the red cherry and a bit if earth. There is some black fruit (black cherry/ripe plum) and green bell pepper too.
It is a versatile wine that I can imagine serving with any roast and is elegant enough for a dinner party. I would serve this with a Mediterranean spiced leg of lamb, burgundy beef tips/mushrooms, pork loin, turkey, crown of pork with chestnut stuffing, roast duck, or boar. See, I told you this was versatile! I should stock up, great bargain bottle to have on hand!

A weak flowery bouquet subtracts from a full mouthfeel of black cherries, tea, herbs, and a touch of chocolate. Medium body firm tannin. A fine pairing to pork schnitzel with heavy mushroom gravy, yet can stand in its own and be enjoyed.
