Leeuwin Art Series needs no introduction.
First up the 2001. I don’t think I’ve ever came across a cab with such a strong herbal smell, which I love. Black tea, pencil lead, fungus, espresso, worn leather, cassis, blackberries, and hint of violet add to the brooding nose. The entry was lively and fresh, nothing I would expect from a 18 year old wine. Medium body and still very noticeable dusty tannins. Acidity is bit too high and alcohol slightly off balance, but I’m not really complaining.
