Coming in at 15.31% alcohol, the 2020 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Quartz is gorgeous. Expressive and inviting, it showcases ripe black cherry, licorice, discrete cedar and black plum aromas. Black olive tapenade adds another layer. Neatly structured and with spot-on balance, the concentrated 2020 contains secure potential to last for up to 20 years. (Nicolas Greinacher, Vinous, June 2024)

A more immediate expression of Les Quarts, the 2017 is jammed packed with fruit but oh so fresh. Masses of blackberry, garrigue, crushed stone and wood smoke rise up from the glass. It's silky and suave, displaying polished purple and blue berries, contrasted by sour citrus, with a note of sweet violet candies carried by juicy acids. While this doesn't have the depth of the best vintages, it's a pleasure-bomb of vibrant Grenache that maintains balanced throughout. #closducaillou #chateauneufdupape #grenache #rhonewine

Lucid, pure Grenache, elegant with soft caressing tannins. Captures the vintage and place so well. Not a complex or beguiling wine but simply beautiful and drinking great right now. Nice to see it unwind some since LBT. Over ripe strawberry confiture, lavender, garrigue, macerated raspberry, warm earth.

I hope expected to be flattened by this wine and while it showed pretty, raspberry and garrigue notes it seemed a little wobbly already. Possibly not well stored?

Medium ruby color, very classic grenache appearance. Medium intensity, developing aromas of strawberry, strawberry jam, leather, toast, vanilla, geranium and violet. Dry with medium acidity, medium tannin, high alcohol, full-bodied; medium (+) intensity flavors of clove, leather, strawberry, red plum, cedar, graphite and lead pencil. Long finish and outstanding quality. Already approachable, you can drink this now but it certainly has potential for further aging.
