Law Estate Wines
Intrepid Paso Robles Syrah
Law Estates tasting tonight. My first time trying the wines. Wonderful Paso fruit with very unique and impressive winemaking.
This is Law’s take on Cote Rotie. Syrah, with a dash of Viognier and one other varietal blended in. Won’t be released until March, so you can imagine how young this is (even after a 24hr decant). It’s got a touch of meat and potpourri to the nose. The palate is large and extracted...charcoal, graphite, underripe blackberry and fig. This will be spectacular in 5-7yrs.

Decanted for 2 hours. Loved the black berry meets tobacco meets lavender combination of flavors.

Dec 25th, 2017This was delicious. Brimming with licorice and cola notes. Very distinctly Syrah. Liked it.

Jun 5th, 2017One of the coolest winery tasting rooms of all time. This Syrah equalled the beauty of the facility.

Jul 6th, 2015Great Syrah from paso! I wish I could of waited for this wine to age, I'm sure it will be amazing in a few years.

May 14th, 20152017 opened 2024. Lovely! Juniper, rosemary and blackberries on the nose. Succulent black fruit on the front, but the tannic structure doesn’t let this wine become insipid. Almost immediately I tasted the high notes of the distinctive Law estate calcaire. Its tannic structure is full and silky smooth and full. High and low notes play counterpoint on the mid palate and the finish. Low notes of dark chocolate. Mineral high notes—flint and limestone—that continue vibrating on the extremely-long finish.
I generally avoid 100% Syrah, because like pure Merlot it can tend to be one-dimensional and uninteresting without the addition of other grapes. But Intrepid breaks out of the Syrah mold.
