Popped and poured, consumed over 5 hours. The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny, “Cuveé de la Violette” by Laurent Ponsot pours a beautiful ruby color with a transparent core and light seeing the tears. Medium viscosity. On the nose, initially quite reticent but with some encouragement, black fruits began to emerge: blackberries, and Marionberries. There was a little bit of a blueberry pie thing going for it as well. After about the 90-minute mark, red fruits joined the party: fresh strawberries that were hastily enjoyed whilst picking for jam and may have still had some leaves and green matter still on them. As time went by, the wine became more red fruited than black fruited in profile. There was a touch of mushroom and sous bois along with a gentle kiss of baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry, with medium tannin and medium+ acid. The finish is long and distinctive. There is a lovely texture and a serious tension to this wine; it plays games with the palate. Towards the final glass, this started to really show its quality. There is incredible depth that is almost impenetrable at this early stage. Patience is duly required. Next bottle in 3-5 years and should deliver quite beautifully for 10-15, easy. Only 3963 bottles produced.
