Mascalisi Nerello Mascalese-Frappato Blend

lots of big, bold structure, but i’m not sure the blend works for me. i love Nerello for its ashy, mineral qualities and Frappato for its bright, rose, red fruit qualities. here they mash up into a wine i find rather extracted and not expressive of Sicilian terroir.

Reductiveness gives way to shit hot red cherry density and high toned pretty aromatics. Ripper.

Light bodied, dirty wet earth, and tart sour cherries and red fruit. I wanted more juiciness, but I enjoyed this.

Flabby. No structure. Did not pair well with osso bucco. 2015 vintage.

Too much funk for me. Out of balance. Maybe a bottle variation?
