Orange wine. Muted floral nose. Texture is special. Electric acidity with very little fruit and a long lively finish. A little like a bitter Chablis.

Fermented in qvevri, with Georgian indigenous white variety called Tsolikouri that are cultivated in organic vineyards located within the Imereti region, western Georgia. Unfiltered wine with small amount of sulphites added before bottling.

Colour is more amber gold than orange (you can see the colour in the second picture). On the nose, it expresses red berries, tart plum, dried apricot, forest, and a hint of honeyed characteristics. On the palate, it turns up strong on the front with some saline and earthy notes, and gradually shifts into nuttiness, dried flowers, and dried orange rind. The wine finishes off with herbal tea-like flavours and astringency from its slight tannins. What's special to me is the aroma, which reminds me of fresh laundry that has been left out in the summer sun to dry--a very comforting smell! This was my favourite orange wine during a one-month trip through Georgia. While it's still impressive and delicious, I'm a tad disappointed because of the subdued mid palate and also feel that it's lacking acidity.

While I'd still passionately recommend this wine to people who are looking to try a memorable orange wine, I can no longer confidently claim it's one of the best of its kind. Kind of a blasphemy to say this but according to my recent memory, the best orange wine I've tasted is from Bosnia.
