I needed two bottles of red to cook with tonight so I thought I’d try a couple of under $10 wines that are widely available. This VDF has tons of ripe, pure berries on the nose. A teensy bit of earthiness. Fruity, straightforward, and balanced. A nice ever-so-slight bitterish note on the finish keeps it from being too simple. Great burger cookout wine.

Ruby in color with light intensity and a reddish rim.
Fruity nose of cherries, red currants, strawberries, light oak, licorice, earth, forest floor, green vegetables, spices, chocolates, barnyard, smoke, sweet candy and light black pepper.
Light to medium in body with medium acidity and nice legs.
Dry on the palate with cherries, strawberries, red currants, oak, earth, dirt, forest floor, smoke, dark chocolates and black pepper.
Medium plus in finish with soft tannins, spices and peppercorn.
This French red drinks nicely now, with a soft mouthfeel. Not balanced and simple, but a good food wine.
Good right out of the bottle, and better as it opens up ( 30 minutes), and when chilled.
I paired it with Beef Carpaccio.
13% alcohol by volume.

The tears of the world are a constant quantity. For each one who begins to weep somewhere else another stops. The same is true of this wine. Paired best with that bit of turnip you found in your pocket.

A little green and metallic right out of the bottle. That blows off. Good value from the Rhone at its price point. Drinking a glass and making Jacques Pepin's beef stew recipe with the rest.
