2013 had a cheap cork that couldn’t be opened with a regular cork screw. 2014 corrected that, but those nickels had to be saved somewhere else. I’m a BIG fan of this wine, but this vintage is in question. I absolutely believe they’re using some sort of artificial vanilla and oak. Something is going on here because it tastes nothing like that past 6 vintages before it. That classic La Alta trademark palette has changed and it’s not because it’s a different vintage. It tastes artificial, no way else to explain it. Something is going on. Too bad.

Red fruit flavors of strawberry and plum. Nice oak flavors but still has a good balance of body with it. I really like this wine with food and by itself.

Vanilla, leather, cola, baked cherries, rounded acids, relatively mellow tannins. From Shawn’s.

Very drinkable, almost mistook it for Sangiovese. Very slight tannins and overall nice and well balanced fruit.

A lot going for it: lots of flavor, good structure, satisfying acidity, and very drinkable young. But a little out of balance; the oak is overbearing.
