Happy Pinot Noir Day! Tonight I am celebrating with the 2009 La Croix de Beaucaillou. This left bank 2nd Class growth 2nd bottling blend is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot from Saint Julien.

On the nose there is black cherry, blackberry, rich plum, black currant, cassis, spice, violets, cedar, woodsy notes and earth.

On the palate I am getting black cherry, blackberry, plum, black currant, licorice, cedar, graphite, wet gravel and earth.

This wine is full bodied with a soft supple unctuous mouthfeel and a medium to medium + acidity a medium to medium + fine savory tannins that move into a long dark fruit pencil lead finish. A beautiful Left Bank Bordeaux from Saint Julien and a shining example of the 2009 vintage. Have a wonderful rest of your week and please stay safe and healthy. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Really a wonderful St J and a crazy value as a 2nd wine. Lovely pairing with roast rack of lamb with garlic / rosemary / mustard. In a good window but could take more time honestly. Wonderful acid, quite deep fruit, long finish, tannins still very there, delicious.

Just an excellent wine, and considering it’s a second wine this really is nice. Tons of black berry esque fruit on the nose. So balanced and pure and just very seamless. Great acid with nice integrated tannins with that refreshing note on the finish. Really delicious and significantly outperformed expectations. Great pairing with roast chicken and mushrooms, and especially nice as the weather turns to fall. Also a nice reminder why St J is my favorite left bank appellation.

Tasted all the old Ducru in Oregon about 1230am. This off a hotel wine list in North Carolina at 6pm EST. The longer this was open the better it got. Wasn't sure about it at first, great fruit, floral, structure and tobacco. Not nearly as concentrated, big or woody as the 05 Ducru. I liked it much better

What a huge disappointment. The bottle was not flawed just exceptionally boring.

For my first exposure to Ducru’s second wine this vintage is superb! Dark and sumptuous on the palette - a perfect complement to steak. This is a Cabernet lovers Bordeaux.

Nose - aromatic and complex
Body - tight and tannic on the open, pencil lead and graphite, blackcurrant fruit, impressive body - complex, layered and dense, firm tannic backbone and structure
Finish - moderate length, smooth, dry and clean
