La Clarine Farm
"Cedarville" Mourvèdre
Clarine's wines are always confusing, immediately back away from this funky urinal cakey nose then ask for the rest of the bottle fifteen minutes later. I like it, it's weird, blinded thinking it was pineau d'aunis, it's light bodied, a bit smokey, plenty of lavender

This effort is no exception. Very light pale purple in the glass. Dried blue flowers and blueberry on the nose. On the palate an odd mix of dry brambly earth and powdery bubble gum from a baseball card pack. Did surprisingly well with the rib roast. Super interesting, but be sure you have the crowd.

Dec 29th, 2016Cloudy. Very estery, black tea. Whole cluster, lacks mid, low tannin, nice acidity. Not a typical Mataro.

Nov 21st, 2015unique for mourvedre, for all mourvedre, not just Cali. it's amazing. unique indeed, maybe due to the native fermentation of the house, but unlike anything you could possibly ever find. stone fruit and blood orange citrus upon opening; too reminiscent of white wine. then, guess what, it changes dramatically and evolves beautifully. cranberry and grapefruit acidity; much more savory after it's been exposed to oxygen for a few hours or days. this wine is a flavorite of mine from La Clarine.

Nov 5th, 2015Killing it. Beautiful stuff. So much flavor and insenity wrapped in a supple fine tannin body. More.
